The 8AM Advanced Workout is a fluid program based on available resources and member
interests. The workouts start across from the East entrance of the Lincoln Park Zoo on
Cannon Dr., south of Fullerton Parkway.
From late February through early May the walkers train for long distance races in the spring.
This training is to build endurance. Walkers who do not wish to race, but want to increase
their endurance, should take advantage of this training.
From May through October several CWC members volunteer to train competitive race
walkers in advanced techniques. The group works on increasing speed and maintaining
endurance. This session is intended for competitive walkers who can keep pace with the
program. Competitive walkers also use this session to train together and share training
experiences. These members have been known to walk together at 8AM long after the end
of October.
The competitive walkers who come to the 8AM program are encouraged to stay through the
9AM Fitness Walk to provide them with a good 2-hour workout and to help reinforce good
race walk technique by example.
